Scanned from 35mm film with an Epson Pefection 4990 Photo flatbed/film scanner in "Professional Mode" with mainly default settings (except scan resolution), ie:

Positive film
720dpi resolution
24 bit colour
Unsharp mask medium
Best quality scan
JPEG compression 16 (high quality).

. I think I slightly prefer this and will use it as standard for 35mm scans.
